What This Marker Means

This ratio helps distinguish between liver dysfunction, inflammation, and nutritional problems. Low ratios suggest inflammation or reduced albumin production; high ratios are less common.

Alcohol-related inflammation and impaired liver synthesis can lower the A/G ratio. Chronic use may push the ratio downward as globulin levels rise and albumin falls.
